This is the group of vineyards in Bussia Soprana in the municipality of Monforte d’Alba. It is about 5 hectares in size and is owned by the estate. The soil is composed of Miocene marl limestone, light gray in colour, has a balanced clay-lime-loam composition and alkaline pH.
The vineyards have various exposures, to the south, south-east, and south-west, ranging in age from 25 to 50 years, with plant spacing of 2.40 * 0.90 meters, and using the espalier and Guyot vine training systems. During the winter pruning, 8 – 9 shoots are left on the year-old growth, and during the harvest, after a rigorous summer thinning, they yield on average 50/60 quintals per hectare. They are part of the group of vineyards that we call: Vigna nuova, Punta, Navai and Romirasco, all vineyards of our ownership, located in an area that is very much in demand by those who produce the Nebbiolo Barolo grape. In Bussia, in addition to the vineyards cited, there are also two “Crus”: Gabutti and Colonnello.

Group of vineyards of the Cascina Mosconi (estate) located in the town of Monforte d’Alba, about 1 hectare in size, partly owned and partly leased. As you descend from the road that leads from the church of San Giuseppe to the Mosconi estate, a magnificent amphitheater of vineyards appears, capable of producing the highest quality Nebbiolo grapes for Barolo, Barbera and Dolcetto. The vineyards of the Mosconi estate are part of the large vineyards that make up the heritage of the Bussia Soprana estate. The soil is composed of Miocene marl limestone, light gray in colour, and is a highly alkaline loam. Its altitude is 400 meters, and it has southern exposure. The vineyards are very steep. The average age of the vines is about 50 years old with a very narrow layout, making any work with machines very difficult. The oldest vineyard is 65 years old, with a Nebbiolo variety. We consider it to be a heritage vine because of its clone, which gives colour and acidity to the wine. The average yield is 50/60 quintals per hectare.

Gabutti Vineyard

The Gabutti vineyards are located in the township of the same name and connect Bussia to Pianpolvere and the Dardi. Again these vineyards are part of the property and are about 2 hectares in size, facing south – south-west, with an altitude of about 380 meters. The average age of these vines is 30 years and the most exposed part is about 50 years old.
Again, the Guyot vine training system is used. During the winter pruning, 8 – 9 shoots are left on the year-old growth, and the average yield following thinning is 50/60 quintals per hectare.

Colonnello Vineyard

The vineyard, about 0.5 hectares in size and part of the Bussia property, is located in front of the farmhouse at an altitude of about 380 metres. It faces south – southwest, and takes its name from the former owner with a military past. This vineyard is about 60 years old, with a layout of 2.20 * 0.90 meters, and uses the Guyot vine training system. The vines are rigorously and severely pruned in winter and thinned in summer, and yield 50/60 quintals per hectare.
